In this fun and heartfelt conversation about music, community, and the timeless energy of jazz, I sit down with my friend Andy Luketich, who leads Skagit Swings Big Band.
This group holds a special place in our community and in my own life as well. When I am not playing with the band, I help share their story online.
Andy and I talk about the joy of making music together, what it takes to organize and direct an 18-piece band, and why keeping the swing tradition alive still resonates with audiences today.

I had the pleasure of interviewing my friend, acclaimed jazz flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny, for Skagit Talks. I first met Dmitri back in 2019 at the Northwest Big Band Jazz Camp, where he was the guest performer, and since then I’ve been lucky to perform with him on several occasions whenever he’s in Skagit County.
In our conversation, we talked about his music, what inspires him, and his upcoming performances.
